Srinagar, Dec 04 (KNO): The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Thursday said six toll plazas are currently operational on National Highways in Jammu and Kashmir—generating Rs 507.56 Crore in 2024-25 and 290.41 crore in the ongoing fiscal year. The disclosure according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) was made in a written reply by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha. According to the Ministry, J&K recorded toll revenue of rupees 507.56 crore in 2024–25, while the collection in the first seven months of the current financial year (April–October 2025) stood at rupees 290.41 crore. Toll receipts have seen a steady rise over the last decade, from rupees 0.11 crore in 2014–15 to rupees 409.96 crore in 2022–23 and rupees 436.86 crore in 2023–24, the data shows. The Ministry also stated that toll collection continues either by concessionaires or by the Government even after the concession period ends, in line with the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. Responding to concerns raised over traffic congestion at toll points, Gadkari informed the House that the Centre has decided to roll out Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) electronic tolling, aimed at barrier-less collection using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) with AI analytics and RFID-based FASTag systems. “A phased implementation will follow based on the performance of the initial sites identified for MLFF.” The reply was tabled in response to a question by Deepender Singh Hooda regarding the number of toll plazas in each State/UT, toll collections over the past ten years—(KNO)
